MCB-Affiliated Programs

The collaborative spirit among colleagues in the School of Molecular and Cellular Biology extends to several robust affiliated programs, and beyond. The ease of access to people and resources in these programs leads to productive and cohesive relationships among our faculty and students. Our programs are integrated with other world class programs across campus such as agriculture, engineering, chemistry, computer science, physics and veterinary medicine. As they participate in the umbrella program for graduate student training in MCB, formal affiliations and a strong faculty investment are maintained with these programs:

  • The Medical Scholars Program—The University of Illinois College of Medicine coordinates a renowned Medical Scholars Program leading to a joint M.D./Ph.D. Many researchers in the School of MCB study molecular mechanisms of biological processes (development, cell signaling, metabolism, and many others), dysfunction, and disease. Our faculty fosters medically related research by integrating MCB programs with the College of Medicine and sponsoring graduate students participating in the M.D./Ph.D. Program. Students begin their program of study in their graduate department. M.D. training is integrated with graduate training in subsequent years. Apply to the M.D./Ph.D. Medical Scholars Program.
