Graduate degrees in microbiology are earned through a combination of graded courses, oral and written examinations, and independent research. In consultation with faculty advisors and based on your academic background, individual programs are fashioned for you.

Post-Graduation

Graduates from the Department of Microbiology are employed in colleges and universities, industry, and government. Following graduation, most of our Ph.D. students accept postdoctoral positions at major research institutions, after which they take positions doing research in academia or industry.

Developments in genetic engineering and biotechnology provide many opportunities in pharmaceutical, chemical, and genetic engineering companies.

The Biotechnology Center Placement Office provides an active and successful job placement program to assist you in locating jobs.
