POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE POSITION TO STUDY “MOLECULAR MECHANISMS OF TRANSLATION, RIBOSOME STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION“Applications are invited for one postdoctoral associate position and one research scientist position in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign to study molecular mechanisms of translation in bacteria and in eukaryotic cells. The positions are available from January 2018 and will be remained open till filled.
Research in the laboratory focuses on the structure and function of the ribosome and other RNA/protein complexes that are involved in translation and translational regulation. We are using a combination of biochemical, genomic and biophysical methods, in particular, macromolecule X-ray crystallography and cryoEM, to investigate translational processes in bacteria and eukaryotic cells. For more information about the laboratory please visit Prof. Hong Jin’s Web Site in the Department of Biochemistry at the School of Molecular and Cellular Biology.
Candidates should have a PhD in a related field, such as molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics or chemistry. Experience with cryoEM, X-ray crystallography and protein purification are appreciated but not required. Determination and ability to work both independently and within a team are highly desired. The Department of Biochemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign provides a thriving and collegial environment for research and postdoctoral training. We provide ample support and mentorship for our postdoctoral associates and research scientists for their successful career development in the future.
Applicants should send curriculum vitae, a brief statement of career interests, and contact information for three academic referees electronically to:
