Dr. Eric Jakobsson, professor emeritus of Molecular & Integrative Physiology and Biochemistry, will discuss his personal, political, and scientific journey into climate science.
The event will be held at the Champaign Public Library on November 2, 2017 at 7:00 pm and is presented in collaboration with the MCB Graduate Student Association.
Trained as a biochemist, Dr. Jakobsson became interested in the discussions and debates surrounding climate science and the effects of climate change caused by the burning of fossil fuels. He will talk about the intersection between big money and deep ideology in American politics, how living systems have influenced climate throughout the history of Earth, and how a class of equations called Fokker-Planck equations might help to illuminate the dynamics of our climate.
