Summer hours for the advising office begin May 15th

During summer the advising office will be open from 8:30-12pm & 1-5pm Monday through Friday.


Express Advising Times & MCB Workshops


Next Curriculum Change Period: January 9 through 30, 2017. Make an appointment with an advisor or attend one of information meetings (see below) to declare MCB during this time.


New Dates set for MCB information meetings for Spring 2017. Interested in declaring MCB as your major or minor? Attend one of our spring information sessions. Registration is required. Current Biology students need not attend, as these meetings are intended for students in other majors on this campus.

Transferring to MCB from Another LAS Major on the Urbana Campus
Current Illinois undergraduates, in an LAS major, who wish to change their major to MCB must complete the following steps.

  1. Obtain approval from an MCB advisor by attending one of our MCB informational meetings or make an individual appointment.
  2. Complete the Curriculum Change Form during the posted application period. Students will receive an email indicating whether or not they have been accepted to MCB.

Intercollegiate Transfers (ICT)
Current Illinois undergraduates who wish to ICT into the College of LAS and declare MCB as a major, must complete the following steps.

  1. Attend an LAS information session.
  2. Meet with an MCB advisor by attending one of our MCB informational meetings or make an individual appointment.
  3. Apply online using the link emailed to you by the College of LAS.  Students will receive an email indicating whether or not they have been accepted to MCB.

Congratulations to Pha Thaprawat for receiveing the American Society for Microbiology Fellowship Award.

This fellowship is aimed at highly competitive students who wish to pursue graduate careers (Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D.) in microbiology. Fellows have the opportunity to conduct full time summer research at their home institution with an ASM mentor and present their research results at the 2017 ASM Microbe Meeting in New Orleans, LA if their abstract is accepted.
