I am writing from Purdue University to invite your junior and senior undergraduates to the PULSe Fall Open House on Friday, November 4, 2011. This open house serves as an opportunity to introduce your students to the Purdue University Interdisciplinary Life Science Ph.D. Program (PULSe).  PULSe provides opportunities for an interdisciplinary graduate experience in the basic life sciences for Ph.D. students.

Our day of activities will include a meet the faculty session, lunch with current students, and a tour of lab facilities. Your students will gain exposure to some of the life science research being done at Purdue, while they are also given an opportunity to talk with faculty and students to familiarize themselves with the PULSe Program.

Some of the highlights of PULSe:

  •  -All students admitted to PULSe receive paid tuition and an assistantship for the entire first year of study to allow them to complete core requirements and participate in laboratory rotations. The level of support in subsequent years will meet or exceed the level of support provided in the student’s first year.
  •  -PULSe students carry out research rotations in FOUR labs for periods of SEVEN weeks each in Year 1, two rotations in Fall semester and two in Spring.
  •  -While in PULSe, students participate in a curriculum designed to provide them with the professional skills necessary for research in the life sciences. These include: scientific communication, proposal writing, and ethics.
  •  An invitation to the PULSe Fall Open House on Friday, November 4, 2011 appears below.  Please share this with your students.
  •  All RSVP’s should be e-mailed to Dr. Colleen Gabauer, Director of Interdisciplinary Graduate Programs, at cgabauer@purdue.edu. Should you have any questions about the Fall Open House or the PULSe Program, please feel free to call 765-494-9256.
