Meet Julie Mathews (she/her)

Hi guys! My name is Julie Mathews and I am a junior majoring in MCB Honors with a minor in Psychology. I intend to pursue a career in health care, and I am specifically interested in pediatrics. On campus, I'm on the executive board for Alpha Epsilon Delta, a pre-health fraternity, and the Illini Mentor Program, which is a RSO where UIUC students mentor elementary school students in the Champaign-Urbana community. I'm also a research assistant in the Nutrition and Human Microbiome Laboratory, which examines the effect of nutrition on the human microbiome and human health, with a focus on disease treatment and prevention. Off campus, I work at Carle Foundation Hospital as a health care tech/CNA on a medical-surgical floor, and I've worked at a nursing home in my hometown for several years. In my free time, I like to run, travel, hang out with friends, and watch reality TV. I also love art and music, and like to paint or play the piano from time to time. A fun fact about me is that I played the piano for 10 years! Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about classes, RSOs, adjusting to college, or just things to do in the C-U area! Looking forward to meeting you guys!
