Hi everyone! My name is Matthew Kim and I'm a senior majoring in MCB Honors and minoring in Business and Chemistry. My major involvements on campus include undergraduate research at the Sokac Lab in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology. The work we do centers around gaining a better understanding of how structural components of a developing embryo like actin filaments affect later processes like embryogenesis and gene expression in Drosophila melanogaster. I've found my experience in the Sokac Lab to be really fulfilling as I have had the opportunity to get a lot of hands-on experience and learn from incredible faculty that are more than willing to teach! I am also an active member of the service fraternity APO and the pre-med fraternity PhiDE. I also like to spend my time volunteering with the DREAAM House organization where I tutor and spend time with kindergarten to elementary school kids from the Urbana-Champaign area. Working with the DREAAM House team and kids has been a truly refreshing experience. In my freetime I really enjoy working out, playing basketball, and watching K-dramas and anime. If you need help navigating through the introductory MCB and chemistry courses, looking to get involved on campus through research, RSOs, or volunteering, or even just looking for a new friend don't hesitate to reach out!
