The main advising office is located in 173 Burrill Hall (Temporarily). Our advisors have offices in Burrill, NHB and Davenport. All appointments are scheduled through the main office by our receptionist. He will give you directions to your appointment.
Regular Business Hours (Fall and Spring semesters):
Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
Please note that we will have reduced hours at certain times throughout the semester. Please be sure to check the announcements above for the most up to date hours.
How To Make An Appointment
Please call 217-333-6774 during normal business hours or stop by 173 Burrill to schedule an appointment with the advisor or your choice. If you get the answering machine please speak slowly and clearly, leaving your name and a phone number where we can reach you. We will return your call as soon as we are able.
We typically do not accept same day appointments, so please stop in to 173 Burrill Hall or call us to set up a time to meet with your advisor in advance. During busy times, like the beginning of a semester and early registration, it is best to schedule your appointment at least 1 week in advance. If you are unable to keep your appointment for any reason please call to cancel or re-schedule. Appointment times vary between 30 minutes and 1 hour depending on the nature of your question.
MCB Leaders: A small group of accomplished students in MCB that want to help current and prospective students learn more about the University of Illinois, the College of LAS and the Molecular and Cellular Biology major.
How to Transfer to MCB
Current Illinois undergraduate students wanting to declare MCB should attend one of our Informational Meetings prior to declaring the major. Interested students should have taken MCB 150 on this campus prior to meeting with an advisor.

Current Illinois students interested in declaring MCB must attend an Informational Meeting or come to an Express Advising Appointment ( call the office for details) before obtaining paperwork for transfer. Advising Contract
Responsibilities of the Advisor
- Help the advisee to understand the academic and administrative processes of the university and the nature of its academic programs.
- Help the advisee to understand the expected standards of achievement and likelihood of success in certain areas of study.
- Discuss the educational and career objectives suited to the advisee's demonstrated abilities and expressed interests.
- Help the advisee to plan a course of study and give advice about courses and the adjustment of course loads.
- Refer advisees to other resources when appropriate.
- Participate in advisor training sessions to keep informed and current.
Responsibilities of the Advisee
- Acquire information needed for course scheduling, program planning, and successful completion of all graduation requirements.
- Seek academic and career information needed to meet educational goals.
- Become knowledgeable about relevant policies, procedures, and rules of the university, college, and academic program.
- Be prepared with accurate information and relevant materials when contacting the advisor.
- Consult with the advisor at least once a semester to decide on courses, review the accuracy of the audit, check progress towards graduation, and discuss the suitability of other educational opportunities provided by the university.
