Immediate Opening For Paid Science Internship with the Illinois General Assembly

We are looking for Biology graduates who would like to be a science intern with the nonpartisan Legislative Research Unit (LRU) of the Illinois General Assembly.

This position is part of the Illinois Legislative Staff Internship Program, run by the University of Illinois at Springfield (UIS). Information on the program can be found at: .

Interns work fulltime for the LRU from August 16,2010 to June 30,2011. It pays $2,026 per month and includes insurance and 8 hours of graduate credit from UIS. The office will also reimburse tuition costs for an additional 4-hour graduate course of the intern's choosing.

Under the guidance of senior staff, science interns write footnoted, documented, research reports at the request of legislators and their staff. Recent topics include: chemical spray notification laws, school lunch programs, regulation of honey production, regulation of exposure to flame retardant chemicals in manufacturing, etc. In order to be successful, an intern needs to write clearly and be able to handle multiple assignments under deadline.

Our science interns have gone on to top graduate and medical schools, and other science related fields, such as genetic counsel ing and science writing.
