The School of Molecular & Cellular Biology is proud to announce that Erik Nelson has been named a 2024 Researcher to Know by the Illinois Science & Technology Coalition. 

Researchers to Know are selected by university partners of the Illinois Science & Technology Coalition who have demonstrated excellence in their careers. The 2024 class honors 31 researchers throughout the state who have recently attained significant milestones such as publishing influential papers, receiving national recognition, or commercializing new discoveries.

Nelson, an associate professor of molecular & integrative physiology, conducts research across endocrinology, immunology, reproductive physiology, pharmacology and cancer studies. He is affiliated with the Cancer Center at Illinois, the Division of Nutritional Sciences, and the Anticancer Discovery from Pets to People research theme within the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology. 

Nelson is recognized for his contributions to the fields of translational breast and ovarian cancer research. His work is associated with the development of Elacestrant, an orally available medication recently awarded FDA approval for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer.
