Meet Ryan Marsh

Hello my name is Ryan Marsh. I am a sophomore majoring in MCB Honors. Following college, I plan on going to medical school because I aspire to be a surgeon. I am from Monee, Illinois which is one of the southernmost suburbs of Chicago. I am currently a member in HEARTs which is a premedical student organization focused on student volunteering and fundraising. I am also a member of Doctors Without Borders which is an RSO on campus with a similar mission. This semester I will be pursuing membership in the Illini Medical Screening Society and Global Medical Training UIUC. I also hope to find a lab that I can call home for the rest of my time at UIUC in the very near future. Over the summer, I volunteered at Oasis Hospice and Palliative Care as a visitation volunteer. I had four patients that I would see weekly to provide companionship and enrichment as they neared the end of their life journey. During the school year, I am an active volunteer at the Carle Foundation Hospital. Outside of school, I enjoy lifting weights at the ARC six days a week and fishing for species of fish, like bass, crappie, walleye, and trout. I also enjoy traveling to the western United States to go on backpacking or hiking trips. My current relationship with my mentor/MCB leader Joey O'Brien has been extremely helpful in navigating the coursework, workload management, and premed journey at UIUC. As an MCB Peer Mentor, I hope to be able to provide the same assistance to someone who is as interested in the MCB discipline as myself.
