This announcement was made as part of The News-Gazette’s 13th annual Forty Under 40 Awards. Professor Brooke is an assistant professor of microbiology and is an affiliate of the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology.

Brooke is being recognized for his leadership in expanding COVID-19 testing on campus and across the state. He helped to establish SARS-CoV-2 testing at Carle Foundation Hospital, produced viral transport medium that was shipped throughout the state, and worked to develop the saliva test used in on-campus testing for faculty, staff, and students.

Professor Brooke completed his PhD in microbiology and immunology at the University of North Carolina, then conducted postdoctoral training in viral immunology at the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
