Dr. Stephanie Ceman, Professor of Cell & Developmental Biology, has been honored with a College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Dean’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.
"We are honored and fortunate to have so many amazing teachers and advisors in the College of LAS,” said Venetria K. Patton, the Harry E. Preble Dean of the College of LAS in announcing the names of 16 professors, graduate students, lecturers, and advisors who are receiving 2025 teaching and advising awards. “From long-time professors and advisors to teaching assistants new to their jobs, this year’s award recipients represent the best in instruction and helping students navigate college life.”
Dr. Ceman’s passion for human genetics is at the heart of her teaching philosophy.
“In addition to mastering the content, I enjoy making connections with the students,” she said. “I think it’s important to meet them where they’re at. I try to make the material both accessible and interesting, and hopefully, they get curious about it. And once you’re curious about something, you’re invested.”
Dr. Ceman teaches MCB 474: Genetic Disorders and Counseling and serves as advisor for the Pre-Genetic Counseling Club. Her students praised her as a supportive and inspiring instructor. She was described as “one of the most supportive figures I have interacted with at the university” by a former student and club member in her nomination.
Each year the college recognizes outstanding educators and advisors for their contributions to student success. Awardees will be recognized at a ceremony in April.
Congratulations, Dr. Ceman!
