Hi everyone! My name is Alisha Xiong and I am a senior majoring in MCB and Chemistry, pursuing certificates in Infection Biology and Microbiology. On campus, I’m a research assistant in the Gaj Lab, where we engineer and optimize CRISPR systems to develop potential therapies for various neurodegenerative disorders. My project aims to evaluate the efficacy of our lead CRISPR-Cas systems in animal models of Huntington’s Disease. In addition to research, I love teaching and mentoring as an MCB 151 TA and prep staff. I’m also a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta, a pre-health fraternity, a rower on the Illini Women’s rowing team, an LAS James Scholar, and a volunteer at Carle.
In my free time, I enjoy exploring buildings around campus, solving puzzles, and biking. The start of college can be a whirlwind, but as long as you put yourself out there, I promise the memories you make will be something you cherish forever. If you have any questions on course planning, RSOs, college life, or anything else, please don’t hesitate to reach out! I would love to help in any way I can, and I look forward to meeting you all soon!
