Course Restrictions, Seat Reservations, and Authorization

For Fall 2026

Please note that all changes to course restrictions, seat reservations, and authorizations are done manually for every section in a course and in some cases for every student (authorizations). It takes time. All times of day listed below are approximate.

The following Advanced MCB Lab Courses will be offered in Fall 2026:

MCB 301, MCB 364, MCB 428, and MCB 460. See entries below for details on each course.

MCB 100: seats are still available and open with no restrictions.

MCB 101: seats are still available and open with no restrictions.

MCB 150: MCB 150 is currently reserved for students in specific majors until the end of summer registration. At this time, your major is not included in those reserved seats. All remaining seats will be released to students from all majors on the afternoon of July 11, 2026. Although the course may appear reserved now, it will become available to everyone after that date. Please try to add the course through Self Service once registration opens. If seats are available at that time, you should be able to enroll successfully.

If you are interested in enrolling, please log in to the Class Schedule and mark any section of interest as a favorite. If a seat becomes available, you will be notified and may have the opportunity to register at that time.

MCB 151: course is currently full, but has no restrictions and is open to all students if seats becomes available.

MCB 170: is restricted to all SMCB majors and will remain this way until summer registration is over. Restrictions will be lifted on the afternoon of July 11, 2026.

MCB 199: Sections M1 and M3 (MCB 150 Merit): Currently restricted for incoming students until New Student Registration has concluded in mid-July. All interested students can request authorization via this online form. Students will be contacted about their authorization request by the beginning of August.

MCB 244: Although this course may appear to be reserved, seats are now available and open to all students.
Please attempt to add the course through Self Service. If seats are available at the time of registration, the course should be successfully added to your schedule.

MCB 245: seats are still available and open with no restrictions.

MCB 250: Although this course may appear to be reserved, seats are now available and open to all students.
Please attempt to add the course through Self Service. If seats are available at the time of registration, the course should be successfully added to your schedule.

MCB 251: course has a few seats, and is open with no restrictions.

MCB 252: course has a few seats, and is open with no restrictions.

MCB 253: course has limited seats available, and is open with no restrictions.

MCB 299: Section 50B (MCB 250 Merit): Currently restricted to students who are BOTH undergraduate majors in the School of MCB (Biology, MCB, MCB Honors, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, MCB + Data Science) AND current Merit Program students. All other students can request authorization via this online form. Students will be contacted about their authorization request by early May.
