Meet Julie Mathews

Hi guys! My name is Julie Mathews (she/her) and I am a senior majoring in MCB Honors with a minor in Psychology. I intend to pursue a career in medicine and am on the pre-medical track. On campus, I'm the president of Alpha Epsilon Delta, a pre-health professional fraternity, and the Illini Mentor Program, which is a RSO where UIUC students mentor elementary school students in the Champaign-Urbana community. I'm also a research assistant in the Nutrition and Human Microbiome Laboratory, which examines the effect of nutrition on the human microbiome and human health, with a focus on disease treatment and prevention. Off campus, I worked at Carle Foundation Hospital as a health care tech/CNA on a medical-surgical floor, and I have worked at a nursing home in my hometown for several years. I am also volunteering at Avicenna Community Health Center this year. In my free time, I like to run, travel, hang out with friends, and watch reality TV. I also love art and music and often draw or play the piano to unwind. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about classes, deciding between pre-health tracks, RSOs, adjusting to college, or just things to do in the C-U area! Looking forward to meeting you guys!
