Common end-of-term questions
Fall Semester Grades and Academic Standing:
- Fall grades will be available for viewing in your Academic History (Self-Service) after 8:30 a.m. on December 24, 2024.
- Academic Standing is final at 5 p.m. on January 8, 2025. If you are worried that you may be placed on probation or dropped, check your email as soon as possible after this time. If you receive a message before this date indicating your academic standing, this is a preliminary decision. Check again after January 8.
- Drop appeals are due: 11:59 p.m. CST on January 13, 2025.
- Results of drop appeals will be sent on January 15, 2025, before 5 p.m. CST.
MCB 290 and MCB 492 Approvals:
- The SMCB Instructional Program office will resume working through approvals for MCB 290 and MCB 492 as soon as staff are back in the office in January 2025. Please watch your email and check your SPAM folder to make sure you do not miss the message with the CRN.
- If you have not received your CRN by the end of the first week of classes (January 24, 2025), please email ipsupport@mcb.illinois.edu.
- You have until the 10th day of the semester to add the MCB 290 or MCB 492, so please be patient while we work through the requests.
School of MCB advising office - regular hours of operation
The School of MCB Advising Office is open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
If you are feeling ill but need to meet with an advisor, we ask that you schedule a virtual Zoom meeting. If you have a previously scheduled in-person appointment, please email or call or office to switch to virtual. We hope to keep our staff and other students healthy throughout the semester and appreciate your assistance. Should you need to miss class due to illness, please follow the guidelines found in the syllabus or website for each individual course. If you need an absence letter for an extended absence from class (3 or more days) please contact the Student Assistance Center through the Office of the Dean of Students.
Advising Appointments
MCB Advising is here to help! Regular 30-minute appointments can be scheduled with an advisor of your choice using our online scheduling system, calling our office at 217-333-6774, or stopping by 200 Burrill Hall.
Express Advising Hours for MCB Advising
We also have Express Advising for quick (10-15 minute) questions that require no appointment. Express hours are on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10:00-11:00 AM and 1:00-4:00 PM and can be in-person, online, or via phone. All express appointments begin by signing into our queue (MCB Queue@Illinois).

Prospective Student MCB, Biochemistry, and Neuroscience information meetings
Prospective students must attend an information meeting before they are allowed to sign up for an individual advising meeting with a SMCB advisor. All MCB, Biochemistry, and Neuroscience informational meetings will be offered in person.
Transferring to MCB, Biochemistry, or Neuroscience from Another LAS Major on the Urbana Campus
Current Illinois undergraduates, in an LAS major, who wish to change their major to MCB must complete the following steps.
- Attend an MCB, Biochemistry, and Neuroscience informational meeting.
- Complete the Curriculum Change Form during the posted application period. Students will receive an email indicating whether or not they have been accepted once the form has been processed.
Intercollegiate Transfers (ICT) (Transferring to MCB, Biochemistry, or Neuroscience from a non-LAS Major on the Urbana Campus)
Current Illinois undergraduates who wish to ICT into the College of LAS and declare MCB as a major, must complete the following steps.
- Attend an LAS information session.
- Attend an MCB, Biochemistry, and Neuroscience informational meeting.
- Apply online using the link emailed to you by the College of LAS. Students will receive an email indicating whether or not they have been accepted once your application has been processed.
