MCB in Newcastle, England
Overview
The School of Molecular & Cellular Biology offers one- and two-semester programs at Newcastle University, a public research-intensive university in Northeastern England. The program is geared towards pre-med, pre-dental, and pre-health students. Students can take clinical courses and participate in shadowing experiences at The Royal Victoria Infirmary, all while fulfilling their major requirements.

Timing
MCB students who are interested in the Newcastle program have two options.
- Attend one semester: either in the fall (September – December) or spring (January – June).
- Attend both fall and spring semesters (September-June).
Intended for third-year students. (Fourth-year students may be possible.)
Eligibility
- Successful completion with C or better in following courses: MCB 150, MCB 250/251, MCB 252/253.
- Successful completion of MCB 354 is preferred if studying abroad in the spring.
- GPA 3.0+
- A minimum of one meeting each with MCB International Programs and LAS International Programs.
Pre-health in Newcastle
MCB at Newcastle University is designed to provide pre-health student with medically-related experiences while studying abroad. Each semester, students can elect to take clinical courses unique to Newcastle University. Experience the English healthcare system directly, alongside Newcastle University medical students. Develop skills in the classroom, then observe their application while shadowing at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
Courses
For students attending one semester
Students will take 16 UIUC credit hours (60 NCL credits) of coursework in the semester. Students register for Biomedical and Clinical courses. Course offerings differ each semester and official course schedules are published shortly before the start of the semester. An MCB International Programs Advisor will help you select approved courses that fulfill SMCB major requirements. Past courses popular with SMCB students are shown below.

Deadlines
For students planning to study abroad for one semester: The application deadline is September 15 and February 15 to study abroad the following semester.
Students planning to study in the Spring can complete an Early Action Application, due on June 15.
For students planning to study abroad for two semesters: The application deadline is February 15 for the following fall semester.
